Żołądkowa Gorzka is a Polish herbal vodka from the Stock brand, produced since 1950 and distinguished by its amber colour and sweet-bitter, spicy profile. The bottle presented here has a capacity of 0.7 l and an ABV of 36%.

The character of this spirit is based on natural maceration. To this day, natural ingredients are still macerated – in special vats, Citrus Aurantium bitter oranges and a secret blend of spices are macerated, including galangal, nutmeg, angelica, wormwood, cloves, gentian root and centaury. All ingredients are 100% natural, and some of them are imported from distant, exotic countries. The producer states that Żołądkowa Gorzka is made from natural macerates of bitter oranges from Haiti and a spice blend – prepared in the traditional way so that the alcohol can fully combine with the ingredients.

Despite its name, the profile is more sweet than bitter. The amber colour and rounded sweetness come from the addition of caramel, while spicy notes resonate in the background – cinnamon, cloves – along with herbal bitterness rounded off by a subtle citrus accent of orange. This is a spirit with a multidimensional, spicy-herbal structure, in which gentle sweetness gives way to a drier, spiced finish.

The vodka's strength has changed over the years. In 2011 the alcohol content was reduced from 40% to 38%, and in 2013 further down to 36%. The version in this bottle corresponds to 36% ABV. The producer also positions the spirit as a mixology ingredient – its natural production method and multi-layered flavour profile mean that Żołądkowa Gorzka is sometimes used as a base in highball, collins or sour cocktails, as well as an alternative to orange liqueurs in recipes such as the Margarita, White Lady, Sidecar or Breakfast Martini.
