Talisker 45 Year Old Glacial Edge is a single malt Scotch whisky from the distillery on the Isle of Skye, the first 45-year-old release in the distillery's history and, at the same time, the closing chapter of the Xpedition Oak series. It is the first 45-year-old single malt Scotch release in Talisker's history and the culmination of the Xpedition Oak series. The whisky has been bottled at 49.8% ABV.

The Talisker distillery has been operating since 1830 on the shores of Loch Harport on the Isle of Skye and currently belongs to the Diageo group. Its intense character stems from water drawn straight from underground springs beside the distillery, two distinctive wash stills and wooden worm tub condensers. This release was created as part of Talisker's collaboration with the Parley for the Oceans organisation and constitutes the final chapter of this series.

The whisky matured for forty years in American oak, after which it was given an unusual finish. Twelve heavily charred American oak casks were taken on an icy journey to the frozen glacial fields of Canada, where a cooper removed the cask heads and exposed them to sub-zero temperatures and Arctic winds for 96 hours. The extreme cold caused the wood to crack, which increased the contact surface between the whisky and the cask during the finishing in Scotland. The spirit, previously matured in American and European oak, was then transferred into these twelve casks for the finishing period, and the whole was bottled at 49.8% ABV in a run of 2,455 bottles.

On the nose a maritime profile dominates. The aromas encompass notes of seaweed and iodine, mineral accents of slaked lime and salt crystals, as well as dried fruit, creamy vanilla and aromatic smoke; the palate is full and mouth-filling with toffee, followed by sea salt, black pepper and chilli, while the long finish brings more chilli, a trace of candle wax, sea salt and smoke. The texture is rich and oily, with Talisker's classic iodine-like dryness, and owing to its age the peat here is subdued compared with the ten-year-old, giving way to the interplay between oak and malt.

Glacial Edge is a collector's release. Until recently it was the oldest Talisker ever bottled; currently the oldest release is the 1976 vintage from the Prima & Ultima collection. The whisky received a Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2024 and is bottled at 49.8% ABV.
