GIN TEASMITH is a premium Scottish gin, produced in small batches using an exceptional botanical ingredient – hand-picked tea leaves from the Amba plantation in Sri Lanka. The story of TEASMITH gin is linked to James Taylor, a Scottish entrepreneur from Aberdeenshire, who in 1867 established the first commercial tea plantation in Ceylon. His pioneering work shaped Sri Lanka's tea industry, earning him the name "the father of Ceylon tea". Inspired by Taylor's legacy, Teasmith gin features a special Sri Lankan tea as its key botanical. Grown on the Amba plantation, the tea leaves are hand-picked and hand-rolled in the very same way Taylor produced his first batches of tea over 150 years ago. The gin is made in small batches at the Strathearn distillery, owned by Douglas Laing. It is created through a two-stage distillation process in traditional copper pot stills. In the first stage, the tea leaves are distilled, gently heated after steeping in alcohol in order to extract their complex flavours. This creates an aroma and flavour profile rich in notes of vanilla, a delicate orange sweetness and exotic spices. In the second stage, a carefully selected blend of classic botanicals is added, such as juniper berries, liquorice root, orange peel, coriander, angelica root and grains of paradise, which, during gentle distillation, lend the gin its refined and balanced character.
