Talisker Port Ruighe is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Isle of Skye, matured first in oak and then finished in port casks. Launched in early 2013, it joined the distillery's core range alongside the Distillers Edition. The name refers to Port Ruighe – the Gaelic name for Portree, the largest town on Skye – paying tribute to the Scottish merchants who traded whisky for Portuguese port wine along the Atlantic trade routes.

The whisky is made at the Talisker distillery, the oldest on the Isle of Skye, owned by the Diageo group. Port Ruighe matures in refill American and European oak casks, after which it is finished in Ruby Port casks and bottled at 45.8%. According to the description of the process, it is a marriage of malts matured in refill American and European oak casks and spirit filled into specially prepared, heavily charred casks, with the whole finished in port casks. The release carries no age statement.

The aromatic profile combines Talisker's signature maritime core with the sweetness of port. On the nose there is plenty of smoke, a note of brine and sweetness derived from the port. Sea air, light brine and restrained peat smoke merge with vinous notes of dried red fruit, raisins, stewed cherries, plums and red berries, while the influence of the port casks reveals itself as dark fruit syrup, cocoa, chocolate and honeyed caramel.

On the palate, Port Ruighe retains a thick, oily texture. The initial brine so typical of Talisker is considerably sweeter here than usual; the palate is dense and mouth-coating, with chilli and a note of orange chocolate, and the smoke builds over time – far more than the nose suggests. Sweetness leads the way: salted caramel, burnt sugar, honey, dark fruit compote, while the port character expresses itself through red grapes, cranberry, blackcurrant, prune and an occasional vinous tartness, as the maritime backbone – salt, brine, sea air – remains present and the peat smoke holds at a moderate level. The long finish closes with peppery spice, lingering smoke and a note of cigar box.
