Sierra Tropical Chilli is a tequila-based liqueur produced in Mexico, combining tropical fruit with a hint of chilli and bottled at 18% ABV. The drink is made using Sierra Tequila Blanco as its base and is bottled with an alcohol content of 18%.
Behind the brand stands a family distillery in Guadalajara in the state of Jalisco. Founded in the late 1970s in Guadalajara, the family-run Sierra Unidas distillery is still located today in the historic part of the heart of Mexico's second-largest city, regarded as the capital of tequila. The product itself is a relatively new addition to the portfolio: brand owner Borco created Sierra Tropical Chilli in response to the growing popularity of tequila in Germany and on other markets, and the new expression offers flavours of mango, passion fruit and a hint of chilli. Tropical Chilli first went on sale on the German market in March, with wider retail distribution beginning in April.
The foundation is Blanco tequila, while the fruity profile is built from natural flavourings and fruit concentrates. Sierra Tropical Chilli is composed exclusively of high-quality ingredients and 100% natural flavourings, as well as mango and passion fruit concentrate, with no artificial flavourings. The recipe also contains sugar and colourings. Thanks to its balanced composition and the use of Sierra Tequila Blanco as a base, Sierra Tropical Chilli stands out clearly from other liqueurs, and its ingredients include, among others, Blanco tequila, water, sugar, flavourings, dried glucose syrup, citric acid and colourings (E102, E110).
The aroma and flavour profile is dominated by tropical fruit with a dry, well-built spiciness. On the nose there are fruity notes of pineapple, mango and other tropical fruits, accompanied by an intense yet pleasant chilli heat; on the palate the drink is sweet and fruity, with tropical freshness passing into a spicy chilli note, while the finish remains gently spicy and long. The producer points to fruit as the axis of the composition: Sierra Tropical Chilli combines the fruitiness of Sierra Tequila Blanco with the fruity, intense flavour of mango and passion fruit and a hint of chilli that delivers spiciness on the finish.
The drink is served chilled, as a shot or over ice, and its fruity-spicy character also works well as a cocktail ingredient. Sierra Tropical Chilli is well suited to exotic cocktails such as a Tequila Sunrise or a Tropical Margarita, in which the fruity and spicy flavours come to the fore.
