Mortlach 16 Year Old "Distiller's Dram" is a single malt Scotch whisky from Speyside, matured in sherry casks and bottled at 43.4%. The expression was announced in July 2018 as one of three new whiskies forming the permanent core of the Mortlach range, alongside the 12 and 20 Year Old.

The Mortlach distillery is located in Dufftown in the Speyside region. Mortlach is a Scotch whisky producer in Dufftown, Morayshire, founded in 1823 and currently owned by Diageo. The distinguishing feature of the plant is its unusual method of distillation. The whisky is made using a 2.81-times distillation process, devised in 1896, employing stills of varying shapes and sizes. It is precisely this technique that is responsible for the meaty, dense character of the spirit, for which the distillery is sometimes referred to as "The Beast of Dufftown".

Maturation takes place in sherry casks. A combination of first-fill and refill casks has been used, giving a broader spectrum of sherry character – from rich, dark dried fruits to juicy berries. This version echoes the highly regarded 16-year-old bottling from the Flora & Fauna series, though it is steered towards greater balance.

Fruit and spice come together on the nose and palate. The whisky is initially somewhat restrained, with a perceptible weight; the nose shows stewed dark and orchard fruits – damson plum, black cherry – with an earthy note and spice. The palate is full, with a coating texture, a light, leathery piquancy, notes of apricot and honey, and a sweet-dry, dark and rounded intensity. The finish is long and complex, with a surprising sweetening right at the end.
