Johnnie Walker Black Label Sherry Finish is a Scotch whisky which the producer describes as a Blended Malt, built around the classic twelve-year-old Black Label profile rounded off with additional maturation in sherry casks. Johnnie Walker Black Label Sherry Finish is a Scotch whisky aged for at least 12 years, with expressive aromas and gentle, sweet notes derived from sherry casks from Jerez. It is bottled at 0.7 l, with a strength of 40%.

The brand originates from Kilmarnock, where in 1820 John Walker opened a grocer's shop and began experimenting with whisky blending techniques, laying the foundations for the family business. The blend is based on the core known from Black Label. Fruit and spice are contributed by distilleries such as Clynelish in the Highlands and Cardhu in Speyside, creamy toffee, honeyed sweetness and vanilla by Lowland distilleries such as Cameronbridge and Glenkinchie, and all of it is wrapped in smoke from Caol Ila on the island.

What sets this edition apart from the standard Black Label is the finishing stage. The whisky is made from distillates aged for at least 12 years and is then finished in sherry-seasoned casks from Jerez, which gives gentle, sweet notes. The producer does not disclose the length of this finishing stage.

In the aroma and flavour profile, the sherry cask overlays the recognisable Black Label framework. The nose offers sweetness veiled in smoke with a playful accent of pepper, the colour is a deep, dark gold, and on the palate there is a combination of the juicy sweetness of figs and the gentler, juicier flavour of plums, both coming from the sherry-seasoned casks. Among the further notes emerge the classic Black Label hallmarks of orange, caramel and wood smoke, joined by sticky raisins, dried figs and roasted almonds. The character is at the same time drier and spicier – the palate is more dry, with a hint of tannins and dry oak and more pronounced spices, including white pepper and a vanilla note from the oak, while the finish is spicier, with an ashy dryness lingering a little longer.

The producer suggests simple serving methods. Johnnie Walker Black Label Sherry Finish works well served neat or over ice and paired at home with sweet snacks, such as dark fruits, nuts and chocolate after a meal.
