Jaworek Roesler 2017 is a dry red wine from Lower Silesia, made from the Roesler variety, rarely encountered in Poland. Winnice Jaworek presented it as a premiere alongside Pinot noir 2017 – a wine from the exceptionally rare Roesler variety, vintage 2017.
The producer is among the pioneers of modern Polish winemaking. Winnice Jaworek, founded in 2001 by Ewa and Lech Jaworek, are one of the first and largest vineyards in Poland. Cultivation is carried out in two locations. Currently the vineyards grow in two locations: Miękinia (15 ha) and Wińsko (3.5 ha). Roesler figures among the varieties regularly cultivated by the estate, while the dominant grapes include Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot gris, Solaris, Pinot noir, Monarch, Roesler, Regent, Cabernet Cortis, Cabernet Dorsa and Zweigelt.
In the glass the wine shows a deep colour. Roesler is a red wine of intense, dark ruby hue, with an initially earthy, slightly herbal aroma that gently takes on notes of blackberry, currant and sweet cherry over time, which are also found on the palate. The structure is built by spicy accents and a tannic backbone. Perceptible spicy tones and a delicate astringency give the wine considerable potential for longer ageing.
The tannic structure sets the direction for food pairings. The presence of tannins allows the wine to be paired above all with meat dishes, beef and game. The alcohol content is 11.5%, and the wine is bottled in a 0.75 l format.
