Glenfiddich 21 Year Old Chinese New Year 2024 is a limited edition of the iconic single malt Scotch whisky from Speyside, based on the Gran Reserva recipe with a finish in Caribbean rum casks. The bottle was released to mark the Chinese New Year in the Year of the Dragon, in artwork designed by artist Raku Inoue. Created in collaboration with artist Raku Inoue to celebrate the Lunar New Year, this limited edition box depicts a hybrid animal combining the distillery's famous stag with a wooden dragon.

The distillery in Dufftown, in the heart of Speyside, was founded in 1887 by William Grant, who, after working at other distilleries, decided to open his own. His family played a key role in the early development of the site, and his descendants run the distillery to this day. At the heart of this edition is the classic 21 year old single malt, whose maturation was overseen by Malt Master Brian Kinsman.

The whisky matured for 21 years in American oak casks, after which it underwent a short finish in Caribbean rum casks. Following 21 years of ageing in used American casks, it spends its final four months in hand-selected casks that previously held Caribbean rum. Brian Kinsman himself describes this process as the moment when Glenfiddich Gran Reserva has patiently matured and mellowed in American oak casks for 21 years at the distillery, and instead of bottling the whisky, the Malt Master hand-picks selected casks and adds a subtle finishing touch.

In the aroma profile, the producer points to intense, vanilla-sweet notes. An intense and vanilla-sweet nose, floral, with hints of banana, fig, rounded toffee, new leather and oak. On the palate, the whisky is initially soft, then lively, vibrant and dry, peppery, with a note of smoke, oak, lime, ginger and spice. The finish remains very long, warming, dry and spicy. The Caribbean finish adds an exotic layer – the Caribbean rum reserva casks contribute sharp ginger, sensual fig and refreshing lime, which build to a crescendo of sweet toffee and spicy exotic warmth.

The whisky is bottled at 40% strength. The edition was produced in a limited run to mark the Year of the Dragon, and the artwork is the main distinguishing feature of this version compared with the standard Gran Reserva. Raku Inoue applied his signature style to bring the limited edition Glenfiddich Lunar New Year releases to life, uniting the iconic Glenfiddich stag with the magnificent Wooden Dragon through the prism of his masterful vision.
