Freakshow – Californian wines from Lodi that are not afraid to stand out
Circus labels, vivid colors, bold imagery – in the world of wine, this is a rarity. We've grown accustomed to subdued labels and seriousness that leaves no room for jokes. And here? "A real circus!". Check out what's behind it – because these wines positively surprise all the senses, not just sight.

Michael David Winery – How a Farmstand Became a Winery Behind the Freakshow brand wines are brothers Mike and Dave Phillips from Lodi, California. They are the fifth generation of a farming family that has been cultivating this land for 150 years. After his studies, Mike opened a tasting room at the family's vegetable and fruit stand – and this location remains the winery's headquarters to this day. Dave joined later, after backpacking around the world. He took charge of distribution and quickly ensured that Michael David wines reached shelves in all US states, and later in over 30 countries worldwide. Today, the sixth generation of the family has joined the business – Melissa Phillips-Stroud, Mike's daughter, who serves as "Director of Awesomeness." Lodi – A California Region Worth Knowing The Lodi region is located in central California, between the Sierra Nevada and San Francisco Bay. For years it has functioned in the shadow of Napa and Sonoma – unjustly so. Warm days, cool nights, and ocean breezes from the bay create ideal conditions for Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. The old vines here grow grapes planted over a hundred years ago. Michael David actively works to bring Lodi out of that shadow. And they're doing it in magnificent style. Circus-Style Label – Brand Philosophy Freakshow is a reference to traveling circus attractions from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, where everything that defied norms was presented. The Phillips brothers transferred this aesthetic to their labels. Each bottle is a curiosity: bright, colorful, full of details, and on one of them you'll even find portraits of the owners. There's a specific philosophy behind this – wine should be a pretext for spending time together, not a ritual for the initiated. Behind the label, however, lies seriously treated craftsmanship. All wines are produced in accordance with the Lodi Rules certification – over 100 sustainable farming principles covering environmental, economic, and social aspects. Michael David Wines in M&P's Offer Freakshow Chardonnay Golden, fruity, with aromas of apricots, citrus, and juicy peach. On the palate, pear, melon, and subtle oak – a smooth and easy-drinking wine, but with character. Works great with fish and seafood. Freakshow Zinfandel Strong aromas of plum jam and blackberries, with brioche in the background. On the palate, cherry, berries, and cocoa – full-bodied, with a long, fruity finish. This is classic Lodi Zinfandel: bold, expressive, uncompromising. Ideal for grilled meat. Freakshow Petite Petit A blend of Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot – velvety and full-bodied, with aromas of plum, blackberry jam, and cherry. On the palate, blackcurrant, cocoa, and vanilla. Dark, dense, deep. A wine rated 90 points by Wine Enthusiast. We recommend it with red meat dishes and aged cheeses. Freakshow Cabernet Sauvignon Full and smooth, rich in aromas of blackberries, ripe plum, and nutmeg, with flavors of berries, cola, and figs. Spicy, long finish. This wine's label features portraits of the owners. Excellent with steaks and roasts. Sixth Sense Syrah Vines planted in 1982 – among the first Syrah plantings in California. Velvety and full-bodied, with aromas of blackberry jam, coffee, and vanilla. On the palate, blackberries, figs, and dark chocolate, with a long and complex finish. Where to Buy Michael David Wines?
