Volcan de mi Tierra Reposado is a reposado tequila from Jalisco, Mexico, made from 100% blue agave sourced from the mountainous Los Altos region. It is produced at the Agrotequilera de Jalisco distillery under NOM 1523 in Huaxtla, as part of a partnership between the Gallardo family and the Moët Hennessy (LVMH) group. The brand was born in 2017 from the collaboration of the Gallardo family, who have been cultivating agave in the region for over 300 years, with the LVMH group, and it was the first tequila created for the Moët Hennessy portfolio.
This edition is made exclusively from agave grown in the Jalisco highlands. Unlike the Blanco expression, the Reposado relies entirely on Los Altos agave, which translates into the roundness, fruitiness and floral elegance characteristic of the region. The agave is sourced from various locations and double distilled in copper pot stills, then aged in new American and European oak casks for exactly 135 days. The two batches are subsequently blended and the tequila is bottled at 40% ABV.
The profile is shaped by a distinct oak influence, underpinned by a core of roasted agave. On the nose, the reposado offers a subtle combination of honeyed sweetness and smoke – a light smokiness reminiscent of a small campfire. There are also peppery notes that carry through to the palate, where the honeyed sweetness is joined by tropical fruit and a touch of tobacco intertwined with smoke. The interaction between distillate and wood yields accents of toasted tobacco, pineapple, subtle citrus and honey, closing with a smooth, balanced finish.
The colour sits between straw and gold, and the base of the bottle is moulded in the shape of the Tequila volcano. Volcán de Tequila rises 2,920 metres above sea level and it inspired the brand's name, meaning "volcano of my land". The tequila works well neat or on the rocks, as well as in a Tequila Old Fashioned and a Paloma.
