Volcan de mi Tierra Blanco is an unaged blanco tequila from the Mexican state of Jalisco, made from 100% Weber blue agave sourced from two distinct growing regions. The brand was created in 2017 as the first tequila in the Moët Hennessy portfolio, in partnership with the Gallardo family, who have been involved in tequila production in the region for generations.
At the heart of this bottling is the blending of agave from two potreros with volcanic soil. Plants from the highlands (Los Altos), growing at around 1,675 metres, contribute fruitiness and a floral character, while lowland agave, cultivated at about 915 metres, is responsible for earthiness and peppery herbal notes. The piñas are cooked using a combination of stone ovens and modern autoclaves, then crushed with a tahona and mechanical mills.
The must ferments in stainless steel tanks as well as in French and American oak barrels, after which it is distilled in copper pot stills. The tequila is bottled at 40% ABV. The producer states that the blanco is free of additives, which is also confirmed by Tequila Matchmaker.
The profile combines the herbal, citrus and spicy notes typical of the lowlands with the fruitiness of the highlands – cherry, pear and peach. According to the official tasting notes, the palate pairs the sweetness of roasted agave with delicate hints of grapefruit and the peppery character of black pepper, closing with a balanced finish.
The bold, agave-forward character of this blanco works well both for sipping neat and in classic cocktails that showcase the flavour of agave, such as the Margarita or Paloma.
