Talisker Skye is a Scotch single malt whisky from the distillery on the Isle of Skye in the Inner Hebrides, bottled without an age statement at 45.8% ABV. Talisker Skye was launched in early 2015 and named after the island on which the distillery stands. Within the Talisker family it sits as a gentler, sweeter take on the classic profile.

Talisker is the only distillery on the Isle of Skye. It was founded in 1830 by two local brothers, Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill, who decided to move to Skye from the island of Eigg and turn Talisker House and the surrounding buildings into a licensed distillery; today it belongs to Diageo. The plant lies on the shore of Loch Harport, near the village of Carbost, in the shadow of the Cuillin range. A distinctive feature of production are the traditional cooling coils known as worm tubs. The water used in production comes from Cnoc nan Speireag (Hawk Hill) and flows through peat, which lends the whisky an extra dimension.

The profile of this expression is determined by the choice of casks. Talisker Skye matures in a combination of refill American oak casks and toasted casks, with a slightly higher proportion of the latter. The casks are hand-selected by Diageo's master blenders, and the greater share of toasted casks gives this whisky additional sweetness compared with the ten-year-old Talisker. Talisker's spirit is peated to a level of around 20 ppm.

On the nose and palate, Skye shows a fresher, sweeter side of the brand. The nose offers light pepper and earthy aromas with a hint of sea salt and smoke, along with the fruitiness of orange and mango; on the palate it is soft, sweet and lightly smoky, with a spice of salted caramel, honey and barbecue accents, while the finish is long, warm and fresh, with distinct pepper and sweet smoke. This is a fresher, lighter counterpart to the ten-year-old Talisker, in which crisp citrus aromas and subtle sweetness are reinforced by maturation in refill and toasted American oak casks, the whole making for a balanced, approachable whisky with a lively interplay of sweetness, smoke and spice.

Talisker Skye is best served neat or with a drop of water. A small amount of water opens up the intense aromas and refreshes the palate. The whisky won gold at the International Wine and Spirits Competition in 2015.
