Talisker The Wild Explorador Special Release 2023 is a Single Malt Scotch Whisky from the Talisker distillery on the Isle of Skye, bottled at natural cask strength of 59.7% and finished in casks that previously held three types of port. It is one of the eight releases in the Diageo Special Releases 2023 collection, whose central theme was "Spirited Xchange" – a celebration of Scotch whisky's travels and the exchange of cultures around the world. Some releases in this series carried an age statement of 11 years.

The cuvée was selected by Master Blender Dr Stuart Morrison, and the whisky was finished in a combination of white, tawny and ruby port casks. Port casks have appeared in Talisker's history before, but this release goes further, combining three different styles of port following initial maturation in first-fill casks. The theme itself refers to Portugal's maritime tradition: the producer describes it as a tribute to the Portuguese lineage of the sailing ships of the age of great discoveries, expressed through finishing this maritime whisky in a combination of Ruby, White and Tawny port casks.

Talisker retains its coastal, lightly peated character here. In the profile, the producer points to maritime notes of ocean air, with accents of oyster shells, salt and sand dunes, over a spicy, peaty base. Breaking through them are sweet notes of white grapes, dark fruit and dry tannins, which on the palate combine into a creamily smooth, fruity flavour, with waves of salinity, smoke and spice in the intense finish. The influence of the port can be distinctly felt – the whisky was finished in a combination of white, tawny and ruby port casks, with the white port making itself known first.

This release appeared in 2023 as part of the Diageo Special Releases and was presented at a natural cask strength of 59.7%. The producer describes it as a full-bodied Talisker with a rich, powerful flavour, which thanks to the subtle finish has gained rounded, fruity notes that envelop, but do not tame, the distillery's classic character. It has also been noted that this is the first such approach in the distillery's history.
