Perrier-Jouët Blason Rosé is a non-vintage rosé champagne from the Champagne appellation, built around the structure of Pinot noir and enriched with an addition of red wines. It is created on the model of the Grand Brut Non Vintage, in which Chardonnay determines the intensity, but Blason Rosé gains an extra dimension through the addition of red wines.
The blend is based on the region's three grape varieties. The elegance and finesse of Chardonnay (25%) combine with the structure of Pinot noir (50%, including the added red wines) and the fruitiness of Pinot meunier (25%) – a variety in which Perrier-Jouët has developed particular expertise. Blason Rosé is a subtle marriage of 50 different vins clairs from the finest parcels of the House's vineyards. The very style of this rosé harks back to the House's history – Perrier-Jouët Blason Rosé was inspired by the prestigious Blason de France cuvées, introduced in 1955 and served in the world's finest restaurants.
Vinification and maturation are carried out in the House style. Hand-harvested grapes undergo alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, followed by malolactic fermentation. The cuvée matures for at least three years in the cellars before a light dosage of 8 to 11 grams per litre is added, depending on the year, while the addition of 12 to 15% reserve wines provides the consistency needed to preserve the Perrier-Jouët style in the face of the climatic variations of a given vintage.
In the glass the wine takes on a beautiful salmon colour. On the nose there are pomegranate, pear, apricots, blood orange and aromas of ripe red fruit, giving way to notes of sponge cake, butter and pastries, with a delicate white-flower character present throughout. First come blackcurrant buds, pear, apricots and plum, then blackcurrant and blood orange, followed by crème de cassis, raspberry, honeysuckle and rose, and the whole closes with lime, blackberries and cherry. On the palate Blason Rosé is a supple and complex wine, sharp and powerful in character, rich and long in the mouth.
This champagne was conceived as a partner at the table. The freshness of Blason Rosé works well with salmon, snapper or sushi, while its richness suits duck breast or lamb with red fruits such as cranberries, as well as desserts combining red fruit, white chocolate and vanilla. The bottle presented here has a capacity of 1.5 litres (Magnum).
