Mortlach 12 Year Old "The Wee Witchie" is a single malt Scotch whisky from Speyside, distinguished by its characteristic 2.81-times distillation process. The name refers to the smallest of the distillery's stills – the eponymous "Wee Witchie" – to which this spirit's meaty, dry core is attributed.

The Mortlach distillery is located in Dufftown and belongs to the Diageo group. Its hallmark is six stills of varying shapes and sizes – three wash stills and three spirit stills – working in an unusual configuration. The 2.81 distillation process dates back to 1896, when it was devised by Alexander Cowie; every element of production is fine-tuned to achieve Mortlach's robust, dry and muscular style. Mortlach uses worm tub condensers, found in only fourteen distilleries across Scotland. These traditional worm tubs provide less contact with copper, which means the spirit is not softened as it is at other distilleries.

Mortlach 12 is the entry-level expression in the range, introduced in 2018 alongside the 16 and 20 Year Old editions. It combines whisky matured in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, balancing the distillery's traditionally heavy, dried-fruit character with fresh fruit and notes of vanilla. The whisky is bottled at 43.4%.

The profile displays the meaty, dry core typical of Mortlach. On the nose, baked apricots and ginger, black pepper, plenty of milk chocolate and a herbal note; on the palate it is slightly dry and spicy, with milk chocolate, vanilla, orchard fruits and cinnamon. The finish is silky and dry, with a note of bitter plum.
