Miodula Premium Distilled Gin is a Polish distilled gin distinguished by the addition of honey to a classic botanical composition. It is produced in Poland in small batches from nine botanicals distilled separately. Bottled in 0.5-litre format at 40% ABV.
The Miodula brand, signed by Toorank, is known first and foremost for its oak-aged honey vodka, and the gin is one of the newer entries in the portfolio. Miodula Premium Distilled Gin is made from nine botanicals distilled individually in small batches: fresh citrus fruits (sweet oranges and whole lemons) from Spain, juniper berries and orris root from Italy, coriander from Morocco, angelica root, cardamom pods and liquorice root from India, as well as whole vanilla pods from Madagascar, with the addition of honey. Distilling each raw material separately and then blending the distillates allows precise control over the contribution of individual notes in the finished spirit.
This is a classic gin marked by a strong juniper aroma, redistilled from neutral grain spirit – which makes it smooth, free of aggressive, burning notes and surprisingly sweet, even though it is not sweetened in any way. On the nose, juniper takes centre stage, supported by cardamom and coriander, with honey and citrus in the background. On the palate the profile is sweetish: alongside juniper, cardamom and coriander, honey, vanilla, orange and lemon come through more clearly. The finish is slightly sharp, with plenty of juniper and liquorice, and notes of honey and lemon also appear.
A structure built on juniper and citrus makes this gin a versatile cocktail base. It works well in classic combinations such as gin and tonic or a gin Martini. The honey accent, however, gives it a character of its own, which also comes through when served neat.
