Longmorn 25 Year Old is a single malt Scotch whisky from Speyside, bottled at cask strength of 52.8% as part of Chivas Brothers' Secret Speyside series. It is the oldest Longmorn expression released in the Secret Speyside collection, introduced by Chivas to showcase whiskies from rarely encountered distilleries; this 25-year-old variant matured in American oak casks, hogsheads and butts, and was bottled at cask strength.

The Longmorn distillery lies in Elgin, in Speyside. It was founded in 1894 by John Duff, some three miles south of Elgin in Scotland's Speyside region. From the very beginning, Longmorn's spirit was prized by blenders for its rich, full character, and a large proportion of it still goes into blended whiskies. Hence Longmorn appears as a single malt relatively rarely, which makes the Secret Speyside series all the more significant, as it showcases distillates usually destined for blends.

Maturation takes place in three types of cask. This 25-year-old cask strength expression matured in American oak casks, hogsheads and butts, and is bottled without chill filtration. The share of butts brings a sherry note to the profile – figs, dates and a delicate hint of leather. The nose opens with a blend of orchard and tropical fruits: pear, apricot, plum, pineapple and mango, while the sherry casks add a subtle accent of figs, dates and a distant note of leather.

On the palate the order is reversed and sweetness comes through first. The flavour is citrusy and oaky, with grapefruit and oak spice to the fore, followed by juicy pear, spices – cinnamon, nutmeg, clove – strong coffee and cocoa powder. The sweeter notes appear first, with orange-flavoured chocolate, which is then replaced by rich, dry tones. The finish is long, silky and dry in character.

The bottle has a capacity of 0.7 litres and a strength of 52.8%. The whisky is bottled without chill filtration – a feature typical of the entire Secret Speyside series, in which the expressions are presented at cask strength and with the natural character of the distillate.
