Knockando 12YO is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Knockando distillery in the Speyside region, bottled at 43% ABV. It is one of the longest continuously available single malts on the market – the first 12-year-old edition was released in 1978.

The distillery was founded in 1898 by John Thompson and designed by the renowned distillery architect Charles Doig. The name comes from the Gaelic "Cnoc-an-dhu", meaning "little black hill". From 1904 the plant belonged to W. & A. Gilbey, and following further changes of ownership it passed into the hands of the Diageo group. Most of the spirit from Knockando goes into the J&B blend, and only a small portion is bottled as single malt. The brand is distinguished by the absence of added caramel colouring and by its long-standing practice of stating on the label both the year of distillation (Season) and the year of bottling.

Knockando is a distillery with relatively modest production capacity. The wort is deliberately prepared cloudy, which builds the spirit's characteristic nutty streak. The malt is very lightly peated. The twelve-year-old edition matures in ex-bourbon casks, and the producer strictly controls the proportion of sherry casks so that the wood does not dominate the flavour.

In the glass, a pale amber with a light body. The nose opens with fruit and flowers – a note of blossoming currant, a hint of blackcurrant, with a touch of toasted bread in the background; with a splash of water, cereal accents emerge, mainly corn. The palate is light, gently sweet and slightly drying, with a touch of acidity. The finish is relatively short, clean and approachable. The profile of Knockando 12YO is described as a particularly delicate, fruity and subtle Speyside, with floral, nutty and faintly smoky layers.

The producer recommends serving the whisky in a classic glass, with water or with a few ice cubes.
