KAH Añejo is an añejo-category tequila from Mexico, made from 100% Weber blue agave and matured in American oak barrels. The KAH brand, produced in Mexico from 100% agave, belongs to Amber Beverage Group and is one of the group's flagship brands in the USA and worldwide. The name itself refers to Mayan culture – KAH means "life" in the Mayan language, and the brand is built around the Day of the Dead festival celebrated on 1 and 2 November, when people honour their deceased loved ones. The distinctive skull-shaped bottles allude to this tradition: the hand-finished tequila bottles are inspired by the sugar skulls decorated for this holiday.
The raw material comes from a single growing zone. KAH is a 100% agave tequila, made from agave harvested in the lowland region of Jalisco, processed in autoclaves, using a roller mill and distilled in stainless steel vats. For the añejo variant, a minimum ageing period applies under the regulations: the official rules require tequila to mature for at least one year in order to bear the name "añejo". In the case of this label, the producer's and industry sources state a longer period – KAH Añejo matures for two years in American oak barrels.
The aroma and flavour profile combines cask notes with a pronounced roasted agave character. The nose reveals sweet caramel and vanilla along with accents of well-baked agave, followed by aromatic tobacco, milk chocolate and toffee with a rich, creamy texture in the mouth. On the palate the structure is spicy: delicately sweet vanilla, agave with a fudge-like consistency, butter and a citrus note with distinct cinnamon-and-pepper piquancy. The finish leads towards spices and citrus – citrus, cinnamon and a peppery note at the close. Long and clean.
The bottle is a distinguishing feature of the entire range. KAH Añejo matures for two years in American white oak barrels before being filled into bottles inspired by Día de los Muertos, moulded into the shape of a skull. Bottled at 40% ABV.
