Johnnie Walker Blue Label Rare Side of Scotland is a limited edition blended Scotch whisky from Scotland, in which the brand's flagship blend has been dressed in a bottle and packaging designed by the Timorous Beasties studio. On 24 October 2019, Timorous Beasties unveiled its collaboration with Johnnie Walker Blue Label, designing a limited edition bottle and box intended to capture the beauty of the flora and fauna from the four corners of Scotland. The design was created by the award-winning Glasgow design studio.

The artwork was built around Scottish nature. The dominant motif of the packaging is the aurora borealis, beneath which soar three large, rare Scottish birds: the white-tailed eagle, the curlew and the eider. Alongside them appear two of Scotland's smallest rarities: the bedstraw hawk-moth and Scotland's smallest butterfly, the small blue, with the whole scene completed by floral depictions of machair, saxifrage and mountain habitats.

Inside the bottle is the standard Blue Label blend. These are rare, hand-selected whiskies from Scotland, each bringing its own character, and only one cask in ten thousand from the Johnnie Walker reserves has the depth and character required to compose Blue Label, including casks from long-closed "ghost" distilleries. The whisky is bottled at 40% ABV. Blue Label is the famous luxury blended whisky, reflecting the Walker family's belief that neither the age of a whisky alone, nor whisky from a single place, is enough to create a masterful blend.

Blue Label's aromatic profile reveals a complex, layered nose. It is a bouquet of dried fruit, citrus and vanilla notes, underpinned by the subtle smokiness characteristic of Johnnie Walker. On the palate, the whisky opens with honeyed sweetness with hints of caramel and chocolate, and as it develops, notes of hazelnut, sherry and gentle smoke emerge. The finish is silky smooth, with lingering sweetness and a light touch of smoke.

The edition is a collector's item – the bottles are numbered. Johnnie Walker Blue Label Rare Side of Scotland was initially available exclusively at Selfridges until 30 November, and from 1 December also at retailers such as The Whisky Shop, The Whisky Exchange, Royal Mile Whiskies, Harvey Nichols, Harrods and Master of Malt, at a recommended price of £225 for a 700 ml bottle.
