Johnnie Walker Blonde is a blended Scotch whisky from Johnnie Walker (Diageo), bottled at 40% ABV and conceived as a lighter, sweeter expression within the house's core range. Bottled at 40% and positioned as a lighter, sweeter expression of the Johnnie Walker portfolio, it was built with approachability in mind and works particularly well in mixed drinks.

Its character stems above all from the choice of casks. It is made from whiskies matured predominantly in first-fill American oak casks, which yields sweeter notes of vanilla. According to Diageo, the blend includes, among others, grain whisky from Cameronbridge and malt whisky from the Cardhu distillery, confirming a construction based on a marriage of malt and grain components. The Cameronbridge Scotch combines with fruity whiskies from Cardhu, creating a spirit made for mixing.

The profile is dominated by a soft sweetness led by vanilla. Neat, the whisky comes across as soft, with vanilla to the fore, gentle caramel sweetness and light fruit. It is creamy and silky, with sweet, woody-vanilla spice notes and a soft finish with mildly lingering spice. It is a style deliberately set apart from powerful, smoky single malts. In terms of style, Blonde stands well away from the better-known labels: it is milder than Red Label, which leans on spice, and considerably less smoky than Black Label.

The whisky was designed as a versatile base for long drinks. Johnnie Walker Blonde was created with versatility in mind and, while it can be enjoyed neat, it was clearly designed to shine in long serves. The signature serve is the Blonde and Lemonade: the official Johnnie Walker recipe recommends building 45 ml of whisky over ice in a highball glass, topping up with 100 ml of lemonade and garnishing with an orange slice.

The launch was preceded by a stage of market testing. The whisky debuted in a series of pilot cities, including Houston in Texas, Monterrey in Mexico, Bangkok in Thailand and selected locations in Germany, the aim being to test a brighter, mellower style of Scotch in warm, energetic markets before expanding distribution. This lighter style has also won competition recognition. Johnnie Walker Blonde has taken medals at major competitions, including the International Wine & Spirits Competition and the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, where it was singled out in the blended Scotch category.
