Caperdonich 30 Year Old is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Speyside region, produced at the now-defunct Caperdonich distillery and released as part of Chivas Brothers' Secret Speyside collection. It is one of the oldest expressions ever released from this distillery.

The distillery's own history is full of twists. Founded in 1898 and closed just over a century later, in 2002, Caperdonich was mothballed less than five years after opening, then revived in the mid-1960s after a break of more than sixty years. In 1967 it took the name Caperdonich, meaning "secret well", after the well from which it drew its water. The distillery produced its last single malt in 2002, after which it closed its doors and was ultimately dismantled brick by brick in 2011. For most of its working life, almost all of its output went into Seagram blends (Chivas Regal, Passport, Something Special and Queen Anne), although a number of independent bottlings appeared as single malts.

This release belongs to the unpeated expressions in the series. Caperdonich 30 Year Old Unpeated was matured in first-fill American oak casks. It is a 30 year old Speysider and one of the oldest whiskies ever to come from this distillery; the Caperdonich bottlings from the Secret Speyside collection offer a rare chance to taste a dram from a distillery that has long since closed and is now demolished.

On the nose and palate you will find notes of ripe plums, damsons, pear drops, honey and oak, while the palate is filled with apricot, pineapple and cinnamon, which linger through the finish. The unpeated edition was matured in American oak casks, and its flavour notes take in delicate fruits, fresh pineapple and sweet honey with warm spices.
