Glenkinchie 24yo is a Lowland single malt from the Glenkinchie distillery, released as part of the Diageo Special Releases 2016 series and distinguished by being the first in the brand's history to have matured exclusively in European oak. The spirit was bottled at cask strength of 57.2% and distilled in 1991, maturing for 24 years solely in European refill casks.

The distillery lies in the Lowlands, twenty miles from Edinburgh, in agricultural East Lothian. Glenkinchie, situated in the Lowlands near Edinburgh, is sometimes called the "Garden Distillery" owing to its location in East Lothian, a region often described as the garden of Scotland, and it has a long association with the Johnnie Walker blend. The house style of this distillery is a whisky that is light, floral and grassy. Glenkinchie whisky is characterised by an elegant, floral and grassy profile with delicate notes of wildflowers, cereal and lemon peel.

Maturation in European oak has given this edition more body and spice than the distillery's light character usually delivers. The third Glenkinchie in the Special Releases series to be bottled at cask strength, it is the oldest to date and the first matured in European oak casks. The nose reveals bright fruity and floral notes – peach and pear soufflé at first, later apricots and toffee; the palate is full and silky, with dark fruit, walnuts, nutmeg and a hint of resin, while the finish is fairly long, with ginger and white pepper, aromatic and subtly dry.

This is a limited-edition bottling with collector status. Bottled at its natural cask strength of 57.2%, it became the oldest official cask-strength Glenkinchie bottling ever released, as well as the first matured exclusively in European oak – one of only 5,928 bottles.
