Glen Keith 25 Year Old is a single malt from the Speyside appellation, released as part of the Secret Speyside collection by Chivas Brothers (Pernod Ricard), matured for a quarter of a century exclusively in first-fill American oak casks. This bottling comes from batch GK/001, dated 5 June 2019, at 43% ABV and 700 ml.

The Glen Keith distillery is among the youngest in Speyside. It was founded in 1958 by Chivas Brothers and created as an experimental plant supplying spirit for blends. Glen Keith's output went mainly into Chivas Brothers' blends: Chivas Regal, Passport and 100 Pipers (later Black Watch). Initially, three stills were used for triple distillation – a rarity in Speyside – and two more were added after the switch to double distillation. The plant also employed Scotland's first gas-fired stills. The distillery was mothballed in 1999 during the downturn in the whisky market, and after more than a decade of idleness it was refurbished by Pernod Ricard in 2013, with a new mash tun and washbacks. Given its role as a supplier of spirit for blends, official single malt bottlings are rare.

The Glen Keith style is described as light and fruity. The distillery draws its water from the springs of the Balloch Hills and produces delicate, honeyed single malts. The slender stills with long, upward-angled lyne arms point to a light distillate, although the plant produced many different types of spirit, serving as a pilot facility for the distillation trials of Seagram and Chivas Brothers; its character today is light and fruity.

A quarter of a century in first-fill oak has left a clear mark on the profile. The nose reveals caramel apples, ginger and marmalade, while the palate is led by notes of gooseberry jam, vanilla custard, baked apples with cinnamon and dried apricots. Without additions, the whisky shows overripe tropical fruit with a light, leafy earthiness – apples, pears, peaches, mango, papaya and pineapple, with a delicate floral note, ivy leaves, oak and gentle, warm spice. The 25-year-old version shows more wood and a slightly darker profile than the 21-year-old expression. The finish remains in a sweet-and-spicy register.
