Majątek Drzewce Muscaris 2022 is a single-varietal dry white wine from the Nałęczów Plateau in the Lublin region, made 100% from the aromatic Muscaris variety. Muscaris is a hybrid of Solaris and Muscat Blanc, created in 1987. The alcohol content is 11%.
The vineyard is located in the immediate vicinity of Nałęczów, spreading across the fertile soils of the Land of Loess Gorges and benefiting from the warm, sunny climate of the Nałęczów Plateau. For grape cultivation, parcels situated above 200 m above sea level were selected, with loess-clay soils and the best sun exposure. The first plantings appeared in 2013, and the foundation of the vineyard of over a dozen hectares consists of noble classics: Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, supplemented with new varieties proven in our climate: Muscaris, Johanniter, Solaris, Souvignier Gris, Regent and Rondo. A number of practices are employed in cultivation to guarantee the quality of the fruit: training the vines using the Simonite & Sirch method, reducing the load by shortening the clusters, and manual harvesting combined with rigorous selection during picking.
Vinification proceeded without oak. Fermentation and maturation took place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, after which the wine aged for 12 months in the bottle. The 2022 vintage was particularly significant for the producer because – as the trade magazine Ferment notes – in the 2022 vintage not only sparkling wines were produced, but also a still version of Muscaris.
In the glass, the wine leads with its aroma. On the nose there are aromas of white acacia blossoms and wild rose with characteristic sweet muscat notes, and on the palate it is light and fresh, with pleasant acidity and a delicate bitterness of grapefruit peel. Added to this are very intense notes of orange blossom, honeysuckle and jasmine, along with fresh aromas of lime and lemon peel. In the opinion of the Ferment reviewer, aromatic Muscaris does not need an excessive amount of residual sugar at all, and in the dry version it is even better: here we have a combination of floral aromas of rose and jasmine and fruity aromas of apricot and mandarin, and the overall picture is completed by a spicy, fairly long finish.
The aromatic profile makes this wine well suited to accompany light dishes. It works well served as an aperitif, as well as with seafood, fish, ceviche and light appetizers.
