Delaforce Fine White Port is a white Port from the Douro appellation in Portugal, of moderate sweetness and light colour, presented in a miniature 50 ml version. Its light colour and medium sweetness make it a versatile wine – both as a chilled aperitif and as a sweet dessert wine.
Behind the Delaforce brand stands Real Companhia Velha, one of the oldest wine companies in Portugal. The firm was founded in 1756 by the Portuguese Prime Minister Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, Marquis of Pombal, and one of its first tasks was to delimit the boundaries of the Douro wine region – which made it, in practice, the first regional appellation in the world.
The blend is made from white Douro grape varieties. The varieties used in this Port are Malvasia Fina, Rabigato, Gouveio and Viosinho. The Ports selected for the Delaforce Fine White blend begin fermentation in autovinificators, in contact with the skins, until the moment the brandy is added. Fortification interrupts fermentation, preserving part of the natural sweetness. The wine matures for about 18 months in stainless steel vats or in concrete tanks, without oak contact.
In the glass, pale golden, with a fruity profile. An intense aroma of citrus fruits and dried fruits, including almonds, leads into a fresh and elegant palate with a lasting finish. The bouquet is pleasantly fruity, typical of Port, and the wine retains its light colour for a long time.
