Delaforce Fine Tawny Port is a young tawny-style Port from Portugal's Douro Valley, a blend of the region's traditional grape varieties, aged in oak vats. The 0.05 l bottle with 20% strength is a miniature format, allowing you to discover the Delaforce house style in a single serving.
The brand today belongs to Real Companhia Velha, also known as Royal Oporto. Delaforce is run by Real Companhia Velha, a company with over 250 years of uninterrupted presence in the Port wine trade. Over time, the Delaforce house has earned a reputation for its blending and ageing skills, which are best expressed in its esteemed tawnies.
The foundation of the blend is formed by the classic Douro grape varieties. Of the more than 30 classic Douro varieties used to produce Port, only a handful of the finest are planted in the Delaforce vineyards, including Touriga Francesa, Touriga nacional and Tinta Roriz. The grapes are selected and hand-harvested in mid-September, and in the case of the Delaforce vineyards are arranged in small crates that protect the fruit during transport to the winery. The Port chosen for the Fine Tawny blend begins fermentation in autovinificators, in contact with the skins, until wine spirit is added. The wines then age in oak vats and are consistently blended to an average age of four years.
In the glass, the youthful character of this style is revealed. This is a young tawny Port with amber highlights, with juicy berry fruit aromas and nuances of ripe stone fruit; on the palate it reveals direct, strong tannins in a fresh, balanced texture. This Fine Tawny is ready to drink and requires no further ageing.
For pairing, the producer suggests desserts and cheeses with a mild profile. Serve with crème brûlée, mild cheeses and chocolate desserts. The serving temperature is 16°C, and the bottles should be stored in a cool, dry place, away from direct light.
