Vera Wang x Chopin is a limited edition of Polish potato vodka, the fruit of a collaboration between the Chopin distillery and fashion designer Vera Wang. Chopin Vodka and designer Vera Wang announced the release of a limited collaboration – Vera Wang x Chopin – which hit the market in spring 2021 in the United States.
What sets this bottle apart from the rest of Chopin's range is the raw material itself. Vera Wang x Chopin is a vodka made from the rare Augusta potato variety, personally chosen by Vera Wang, recognisable by a single red dot on its skin. It is a variety that Vera Wang hand-selected and which had never before been used in spirits production. The potatoes are grown sustainably, without chemicals or pesticides, in the village of Krzesk in Poland, home to the Chopin distillery, and the resulting vodka is naturally gluten-free.
Production follows a farm-to-bottle philosophy, from field to bottle. To produce one litre of spirit, the producer uses around 7 pounds of potatoes, all ingredients come from local farms, and most of the process is carried out by hand, using a copper column still. Chopin challenges the widespread belief that a spirit should be as neutral as possible, forgoing flavourings and colourings so that a single ingredient can express itself in full.
In its sensory profile, Augusta delivers an effect unusual for potato vodkas. The vodka has a full, floral bouquet with a note of cucumber, a medium structure and a warm, slightly spicy finish with accents of vanilla and almond. The bottle is part of a design created by the designer herself. The vodka comes in a distinctive one-litre bottle designed by Vera Wang, which, drawing inspiration from her iconic wedding gowns, combines black with delicate white lines and features a poem written by her. The bottle is filled at 40% alcohol by volume.
