Cameron Bridge 26 Year Old is a Single Grain Scotch whisky from the Cameronbridge distillery in Fife, released as part of the Diageo Special Releases 2022 collection under the Elusive Expressions theme. This bottling comes from the Elusive Expressions-themed collection and marks the first ever appearance of Cameronbridge in the Special Releases series. It has been bottled as "Cameron Bridge", a nod to the fact that until the 1870s the name was written as two words.
The distillery has a long pedigree. Founded in 1824, Cameronbridge is one of the largest and oldest grain whisky distilleries in Europe. Its whiskies have been renowned for their silky, honeyed smoothness. The history of its production dates back to the Haig family in the 17th century, and today the plant operates under the Diageo banner. Nowadays it produces grain whiskies for blends including Johnnie Walker and Haig Club.
It spent its entire maturation in a single cask type. The whisky matured for 26 years exclusively in refill bourbon casks, in a long and gentle maturation process. Refill casks have a restrained influence on the spirit, allowing its natural character to shine through. It has been bottled at cask strength. The natural cask strength is 56.2%.
The aroma and palate are dominated by the sweet, dessert-like profile of an old grain whisky. Subtly spiced, grainy notes intertwine with a sweetness suggesting ripe tropical mango, papaya and pea pods, while above them float hints of hard toffee and light oak shavings that foreshadow the spicy intensity on the palate. The texture is silky and smooth, with an intense, buttery-sweet flavour turning into rich caramel toffee, while the mid-palate brings a balancing spicy-dry, oaky intensity. A dash of water reveals notes of cinnamon bun and salted toffee, which gradually shift towards fragrant beeswax. The finish is short and intense, with a warming touch of chilli.
The whisky is a rare collector's item. It is a mature Single Grain whisky from the Cameronbridge distillery, the largest grain whisky distillery in Europe, released as part of the Diageo Special Releases 2022 collection under the Elusive Expressions theme. The producer recommends serving it neat, pouring 60 ml into a whisky glass.
