Turnau Seyval blanc 2023 is a dry white single-varietal wine from Baniewice in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, made entirely from the Seyval blanc variety. When properly cultivated, seyval yields in Baniewice a very elegant and delicate wine, with a pleasant harmony of sugar and acidity.
The Turnau Vineyard was established through the combined efforts of several people connected with agriculture and culture. Zbigniew Turnau, his son Jacek – both running a large farm – orchardist Tomasz Kasicki, and Grzegorz Turnau decided to join forces, take advantage of the excellent conditions in Baniewice, and found a vineyard. Their work is supported by an experienced winemaker from the Rhineland – Frank Faust. The variety itself has French origins: Seyval blanc, a white grape variety, was bred in the nineteenth century in France by Bertieul Seyve as a cross between Seibel 5656 and Seibel 4986, with the main breeding goal being to achieve a variety more resistant to frost.
The wine matures in stainless steel, which maintains its crisp and clean profile. The wine is matured in stainless steel tanks, adding an extra freshness and purity. Fruity and floral notes lead in the aroma and taste. Aromas of fresh apples and pineapples intertwine here with lemongrass and wildflowers, while on the palate orange and grapefruit take the lead, adding refreshment to the apple flavour. On the palate it is concentrated, savoury, and full of fruit, mainly ripe peach.
The structure is built on a distinct acidity balancing the fruit. The pronounced, refreshing acidity makes the Seyval blanc from the Turnau Vineyard an elegant, light wine. For pairing, the producer and industry sources point to light dishes. It is best served with Asian cuisine, seafood, pasta, or risotto.
