Riesling 2025 from Winnica Turnau is a dry white single-varietal wine, originating from Baniewice in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. In the Banie municipality lies the small village of Baniewice, where cousins Zbigniew, Jacek and Grzegorz Turnau were united by a passion for tradition, and with the support of fruit grower Tomasz Kasicki, in 2010 they began renovating a nineteenth-century farm building and created a modern vineyard with a winery. Renowned Rhineland winemaker Frank Faust was invited to collaborate.
The vineyard covers two plots with a combined area of 41 hectares, and the main varieties cultivated here are Solaris, Johanniter, Riesling, Hibernal, Seyval Blanc, Rondo, Regent and Cabernet. The 2025 vintage was made using the classic harvesting and vinification regime for this variety: the Riesling is picked last in the harvest, fermented over a long period in large wooden vats and aged on the lees. This is the latest vintage of one of the most highly regarded Polish wines, which fermented and aged for four months in large oak vats of Slavonian oak.
In the glass, the wine leads with citrus. It delights with a citrusy character composed of notes of tangerine, lemon and lime, complemented by accents of peach, apple, jasmine and herbs. The first nose reveals a citrusy character – a tangerine opening moves into intense peach, finished with jasmine blossom and a delicate herbal note, while on the palate it is pronounced, lemony and full. The finish lingers long in an apple style on the palate.
The wine's profile is expressive and satisfying. Expressive, complex, satisfying and long to remain in the memory. As for food pairings, the producer indicates a wide range of combinations. It works well in the company of food, including freshwater fish, poultry, seafood, sushi and salads, and at the same time it is one of the most versatile wines for Polish cuisine. Alcohol at 12% emphasises the crisp, citrusy framework of this vintage.
