Abafado jest winem wzmacnianym wyprodukowanym w 100% z odmiany Fernao Pires. Na początkowym etapie produkcji dodaje się Aguardente (neutralny destylat winogronowy), który zatrzymuje fermentację. Następnie wino dojrzewa przez 5 lat w dębowych beczkach. Posiada bursztynową barwę i ujmujący, słodki aromat miodu, suszonych fig, karmelu i prażonych migdałów. W smaku przyjemne z dominacją prażonych orzechów i suszonych owoców, o dobrej równowadze pomiędzy słodyczą, kwasowością a podwyższoną zawartością alkoholu. Zakończenie jest długie i aksamitne. Świetne jako digestif lub po prostu płynny deser, a wręcz idealny do creme brulee, crema catalana czy tarty dyniowej z palonym miodem.
