Laphroaig 25 Year Old Cask Strength is a single malt from Islay in southern Scotland, bottled at cask strength without chill filtration – the 2023 edition made it into bottles at 47.3% ABV. This is the annual aged release from the distillery on the island's south coast, renowned for the heavily peated, maritime character of its spirits.

The whisky was made from barley malted on the distillery's own malting floor (floor malting), a practice Laphroaig still maintains. The spirit began its journey in 1998, and the 2023 edition matured for a quarter of a century, bottled without chill filtration and at cask strength. Maturation took place over a quarter of a century in ex-Bourbon casks. The whisky retains its natural colour – bottled without colouring and without chill filtration at 47.3%. In the glass it shows a pale gold hue.

On the nose the peat is distinctly restrained here. The nose opens with very delicate peat aromas, with a trace of medicinal iodine and subdued smoke; behind the peat come sweet fruity notes led by pear drops and green apples, accompanied by vanilla and fresh pastry, while accents of cured ham and cinnamon appear in the background. On the palate the profile turns tropical. Surprisingly light, with a creamy texture, dominated by tropical fruits including pineapple, peach, mango and papaya, against a backdrop of citrusy orange and a touch of white pepper.

The finish is led by smoke, which over time takes on an ashy tone. A long finish, with soft, gentle peat and lingering refined smoke that becomes more ashy towards the end. This is the cask strength variant – bottled at cask strength, without chill filtration and with no added colouring.
