Kruk Cytrus-Chytrus is a Polish flavoured citrus spirit from Kravt & Co., built on a base of potato spirit and distinguished by the combination of citrus fruit with ginger. Bottled at 32.3% ABV, in a 0.7-litre format.
The foundation of this spirit is alcohol made from Polish potatoes. For Cytrus-Chytrus the producer uses uniform, Polish potato spirit, and the ethyl alcohol is distilled multiple times and undergoes a multi-stage purification process before the rectified spirit becomes the base for the flavoured drink. Kravt positions the product as a craft, manufacture-made item. It is produced in limited, small quantities, with a hand-glued label, hand-numbering of every bottle and a production date, while the brand guarantees quality with the owners' own signatures.
The aroma and flavour profile is built on citrus fruit cut through with ginger. Juicy citrus fruits deliver acidity, bitterness and sweetness, which the producer breaks up with ginger, giving the spirit a distinctive character. The creators emphasise the aroma of grapefruit and the juiciness of the citrus, along with their intention to create a drink that is not overly sweet. Detailed tasting notes mention an intense, clean, citrusy aroma with plenty of grapefruit, clementine and candied lemon peel notes, while the palate offers sweet oranges, ginger and minerality, with a delicate finish reminiscent of powdery citrus sweets.
The producer states the serving method plainly: Cytrus-Chytrus is drunk from a thick-glass tumbler, lightly chilled or with 2–3 ice cubes. Thanks to its citrus-and-ginger character, the spirit also works well as a cocktail ingredient.
