Johnnie Walker Blonde is a blended Scotch whisky from the Diageo portfolio, a blend of malt whiskies and wheat-based grain whisky, bottled at 40%. It is a lighter, sweeter take on the brand, conceived with long drinks in mind. The producer describes it as a blend of single malt whiskies with a wheat-based grain whisky.

The character of Blonde stems largely from the way it is matured. The whiskies in the blend mature primarily in first-fill American oak casks, which impart sweeter notes of vanilla. Hence the pale gold colour and a profile built around sweetness rather than peat or robust spice. Within the range, Johnnie Walker Blonde sits as a stylistically distinct variant. In terms of style, Blonde stands apart from the better-known labels: it is gentler than Red Label, which leans on spice, and considerably less smoky than Black Label.

The aroma and palate are dominated by a sweet, fruity tone. The nose opens with fresh, ripe berries, silky vanilla, soft malt and toffee. On the palate come toffee apple, further vanilla sweetness, buttered popcorn and chewy caramels. The finish brings soft, light citrus notes and apple pie dusted with icing sugar. The texture is round and lightly creamy, with flavours closer to confectionery than to spice, while the finish is light and moderately sweet, with a citrus accent and a barely perceptible undertone of smoke.

Blonde was created with mixing in mind. It was made with an emphasis on versatility and, although it can be drunk neat, it has clearly been designed for longer serves. The signature serve is Blonde with lemonade: the official Johnnie Walker recipe calls for 45 ml of whisky over ice in a highball glass, topped up with 100 ml of lemonade and garnished with a slice of orange. The set additionally includes a dedicated glass.
