Finlandia Mango is a flavoured vodka from Finland in which neutral grain spirit is combined with the fruity profile of mango. This variant was launched in 2004 as one of the brand's first flavour extensions, alongside Cranberry and Lime.
The base is made from Finnish six-row barley. Finlandia is produced from Finnish six-row barley and pure glacial spring water, with the initial distillation of the fermented grain taking place at the Koskenkorva plant in seven columns averaging 25 metres in height, where remaining impurities are removed in a continuous process. The distilled alcohol is then transported to the production facility in Rajamäki, where the spirit is blended with glacial water, flavoured and bottled. The barley distillate is diluted with glacial water from the spring in Rajamäki, and since this water is naturally filtered through sand and moraine formed by retreating glaciers during the Ice Age, no deionisation, osmosis or other artificial filtration is used.
The profile is dominated by sweet mango, complemented by a note of peach. The sweet aromas of mango and peach create a crisp, honeyed nose, giving the vodka a less obvious tropical character. The 40% version was created later than the original 37.5% variant. At 37.5% ABV, the vodka was originally conceived as a party shot, but bartenders quickly discovered its virtues in exotic long drinks and cocktails, which is why Finlandia's mango also appeared in a 40% variant.
The brand remains associated with Finland and wide distribution. Finlandia is distributed in 135 countries and widely associated with Finland on the international market. The 40% ABV, 0.7-litre bottle works well as a base for fruity cocktails and long drinks; the sweetness of mango pairs nicely with citrus juices, tonic water and ice.
