Château Dauzac

Château Dauzac – fifth Grand Cru Classé of the Margaux appellation in the 1855 classification. The vineyard – 49 hectares in a single block (45 ha Margaux, 4 ha Haut-Médoc) – lies just 350 metres from the Gironde estuary, on deep gravels over a clay-and-gravel subsoil, amid the meadows and woodlands of the 120-hectare estate.

The estate's history dates back to 1190, and it was here, in 1884, that Bordeaux mixture was developed, saving the vineyards of Bordeaux from downy mildew. In 2020 Dauzac was purchased by the Roulleau family and the property is once again a family estate, with innovation remaining part of its DNA: ungrafted Cabernet Sauvignon vines, the first Grand Cru Classé with fully vegan wines and a decarbonisation programme covering the entire estate. Plantings are around 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot; harvesting is done entirely by hand, into small crates.
