Casa de la Ermita is a winery founded in 1999 in the Jumilla region, in the province of Murcia in southern Spain. A pioneer in the production of organic wines in the Jumilla appellation, with vineyards situated at an altitude of 700 m above sea level in the protected regional park of El Carche.
Casa de la Ermita is a relatively young winemaking venture, established in 1999 by a family that has long combined agricultural traditions with modern technologies. The winery and its vineyards are located in El Carche – a protected regional park in the Baetic Mountains, the second highest mountain range in Europe. The centuries-old olive tree standing at the gates of the vineyard has become the symbol of Casa de la Ermita and the source of inspiration for its labels.
The winery is surrounded by vineyards and lies 700 metres above sea level. The most important variety grown at Casa de la Ermita is Monastrell, but Cabernet Sauvignon, Macabeo, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Syrah and Viognier also play an important role. Many plots are cultivated in accordance with the requirements of organic farming – without synthesised chemicals, using fertilisers and pesticides of natural origin. Casa de la Ermita is a pioneer in the production of organic wines in the Jumilla appellation and, for over five years, a leader in organic farming in the Murcia region.
The wines are made using a gravity-flow system in cellars more than eight metres deep, which provide space for ageing 4,200 barrels of 225 litres each. The temperature is controlled throughout the entire production process in order to obtain complex and aromatic wines with ageing potential.
