John Distilleries

John Distilleries was founded in 1992 by Paul P John and began its operations with the production of a wide range of spirits – wines, brandy and typical Indian whisky, which is predominantly produced here using molasses distillates.

The blend Original Choice, a composition of neutral molasses spirit and grain whiskies, quickly became a sales hit. In 2015, its sales reached 128 million bottles. Today, the John Distilleries group, headquartered in Bangalore, operates 3 facilities and the company's portfolio includes 12 alcohol brands. The true gem is the single malt whisky distillery established on the coast of Goa in 2007. Whisky is produced here according to the traditional Scottish recipe based 100% on malted barley and double distillation in traditional copper pot stills. The beautiful landscape of Goa became the inspiration for creating several distinct whisky variants. A 6-row barley variety growing at the foothills of the Himalayas is used for production, and the peat used for smoking the grain is imported from Scotland. The whisky matures here mainly in ex-bourbon casks. The hot, humid climate prevailing in Goa means that whisky matures here much faster and after just 5-6 years achieves flavor qualities found in Scottish whiskies aged for over a dozen years. The price of rapid maturation is a higher angel's share, which reaches approximately 8% annually here.
The first single malt whisky hit the market in autumn 2012. Paul John whiskies surprise with their richness of flavors and aromas. You'll find notes of spices, dried fruits, chocolate, marmalade, coconut, vanilla and honey, as well as varying degrees of smoky accents depending on the line. The whisky is not colored with caramel and is not chill-filtered.
