Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mencía and Monastrell – join us for a tasting of red wines from Spain.
Spain is a country of tremendous contrasts: the cool, green slopes of Galicia, continental Castile, the rugged highlands of Aragón and the sun-baked south-east. It is precisely this diversity of climates and soils that allows Spain's red wines to be at once elegant and fresh, juicy and fruity, as well as powerful, dark and long-lived.
During the tasting we will trace the country's most important red varieties – tempranillo, the heart of Rioja and Ribera del Duero – through garnacha, which gives wines the energy of fruit and a spicy softness, to mencía from Bierzo, full of freshness, violets and mineral precision. There will also be monastrell from Jumilla!
The event will be an opportunity to learn how grape variety, region and method of ageing change a wine's style. This is a tasting for those who want to understand why Spain is one of the world's most versatile wine-producing countries, and to understand how to match its wines with specific dishes.
We look forward to seeing you!
