Ponte de Lima was founded in 1959 in Ponte de Lima – the oldest town in Portugal. Currently, the cooperative brings together around 1000 winegrowers, being one of the largest in the Vinho Verde region. Original and high-quality wines from the Minho region are produced here – a terroir with Atlantic climate influences. Wines are made here from local grape varieties, among the white ones Loureiro stands out, the dominant variety for Vinho Verde from the Ponte de Lima cellar, but equally important are Trajadura, Arinto and Alvarinho. The winery's specialty is the so-called green wines – Vinho Verde, which are characterized by pleasant freshness, citrus, delicate, fruity and subtle aroma. Wines at Ponte de Lima are produced exclusively from grapes sourced from cooperative members. Caring for the highest quality, the winery holds many different certifications, is part of the COTEC Innovation SME network and participates in innovations in cooperation with universities and polytechnics.
