The winery's name comes from the village of the same name. Paniza is a small farming town not far from Cariñena, the wine capital of Aragón. It was here, in 1953, that a story began in which a group of winemaking friends joined forces to give the world the very best they had – their wine. Today, grapes of many varieties are sourced from around 300 growers, from a combined area of almost 3,000 hectares of vineyards.
The tradition of growing vines in these lands dates back to antiquity, when the first Phoenicians, and later the Romans, brought it here from the eastern Mediterranean. The local vineyards, situated at around 700 m above sea level, are subject to a continental climate: summers are very hot and relatively dry, while winters are bitterly cold and windy. The soil is marked by great variation in geological composition depending on the altitude. In the lower areas we find brown limestone, sandstone and clay soils, while in the higher-lying parts, where the older vines grow, there are slate soils. Many different grape varieties, diverse terroir, older and younger plantings – all this means that Paniza's range includes both simple, everyday wines and those from single, exceptional plots, awarded and distinguished at wine competitions and exhibitions.
