Scapa 10 Year Old is a single malt from the island of Orkney in the north of Scotland, bottled at 48% ABV and distinguished by a fruity, unpeated profile that is unusual for an island malt. The trio of age-statement single malts forms the first permanent range from the Scapa distillery since its founding in 1885, created under the hand of distillery manager Mick Swanney on the most northerly whisky-producing island in Scotland. The Scapa distillery, owned by Chivas Brothers, has introduced its debut Signature collection of single malts, comprising three expressions – 10, 16 and 21 years old.

The character of this whisky is shaped by two elements of the production process. The distillery's distinctive flavour profile results from the use of an extended fermentation period and unpeated malted barley. The fermentation time is among the longest in Scotch whisky at 160 hours, or almost 7 days, which gives the single malt a fruity character, unusual for an island malt. The second distinguishing feature is the stills: Scapa is the only distillery in Scotland equipped with a Lomond-type wash still – a still fitted with perforated plates, something between a pot still and a column still. The barrel-shaped Lomond still serving as the wash still helps to enhance the fruitiness of Scapa's new-make spirit.

Maturation takes place exclusively in American oak casks. The entire range, released as the Signature Range in late 2024, showcases Scapa's fruity, unpeated style, with all three whiskies matured in first-fill American oak casks and bottled either at 48% ABV or at cask strength. Scapa 10 Years Old is bottled at 48% ABV and is both non-chill filtered and of natural colour.

The nose is led by tropical fruit. The whisky opens with vibrant tropical fruits, including fresh pineapple and mango ice cream, complemented by notes of crème brûlée, pancakes with honey and a touch of citrus peel. The palate reveals a combination of stewed apples with spices, vanilla custard and light banana, with hints of toasted oak and milk chocolate. The youngest expression in the range, the ten-year-old, unveils flavours of fresh pineapple on the palate with subtle spice notes on the finish.

Scapa remains a small-scale distillery of traditional character. It is a small distillery producing 1.3 million litres of whisky per year, with most of the output used in Chivas Brothers' blended whiskies, including Ballantine's and Chivas Regal, while only a small percentage is bottled as Scapa single malt. Scapa 10 Year Old was awarded gold at The Spirits Business Global Scotch Whisky Masters 2025.
