Mannochmore 12 Year Old Flora & Fauna is a single malt Scotch whisky from Speyside, the only official bottling from this distillery under its own name and part of Diageo's legendary series. Apart from the 12-year-old bottling within the United Distillers "Flora & Fauna" series, not many official releases from Mannochmore have appeared; there was also an 18-year-old official edition, sold out in 2014. The name of the entire series is attributed to the late whisky critic Michael Jackson, and the line was introduced in the 1990s by United Distillers & Vintners to showcase distilleries that did not bottle under their own name; the full collection numbers 26 items, some of which have already been discontinued.

The distillery lies south of Elgin, in the heart of Speyside. Mannochmore is the sister distillery of Glenlossie, situated right next door; it belongs to Diageo and was founded in 1971 as one of the newer Scottish distilleries, producing malt for the Haig and Dimple blended brands. It shares with Glenlossie not only the site but also its water source – Bardon Burn. The character of the spirit is shaped by the process itself: the distillery is distinguished by a very clear wort and long fermentations, which combined with high copper contact during distillation yields the clean, fruity character associated with Mannochmore single malt.

This edition was bottled at 43%. According to Diageo's official description, the whisky is surprisingly clean, dry and direct, and thanks to light, grassy and herbal notes it works well as an aperitif. On the nose the first impression is sweet and lightly malty, then aldehydic notes (green twigs) appear along with a slight trace of sulphur, and in time the green accents shift towards green apple. On the palate the whisky is light to medium bodied, like a good wine, fresh and clean, with pronounced acidity and well-balanced dryness. The finish is surprisingly dry for a Speyside.

This is a character described in broader terms as a lighter variant of Speyside. Mannochmore produces a light style, though without the oily undertone of its sister distillery Glenlossie; flowers come to the fore along with delicate fruit that gains weight during maturation. The distillery also has a colourful page in history: it is the producer of Loch Dhu, a single malt matured in double-charred casks, first distilled in 1986 and launched in 1996. The 12-year-old edition from the Flora & Fauna series, meanwhile, remains the most commonly encountered official expression from this rarely bottled distillery.
