Moët & Chandon Ice Impérial Rosé is a rosé champagne from France's Champagne region, created to be served over ice cubes. This cuvée deliberately breaks the traditional rules of serving champagne, and its blender, Benoît Gouez, composed it to retain its aromatic intensity and balance in contact with melting ice.
The blend is based on three Champagne grape varieties with a predominance of Pinot Noir. Ice Impérial Rosé is a blend of 45–55% Pinot Noir, of which 10% is red wine, 35–45% Meunier, of which 10% is red wine, and 5–10% Chardonnay. Around 20–30% of this blend consists of selected reserve wines. Each element brings a different characteristic: Gouez describes the Pinot Noir as angular and vinous, chosen both for the intensity of its fruit and for the structural integration of the dosage; the Meunier contributes richness along with mid-palate notes of harmony and softness, while the 5–10% Chardonnay adds a polished acidity and a refreshing finish.
The distinguishing feature of this cuvée is its high level of dosage. The dosage is 38 grams per litre, which officially makes Ice Impérial Rosé a champagne in the Demi-Sec category. According to Gouez, the dosage not only gives the wine structure and personality but also helps preserve the champagne's balance in contact with the ice cubes. It is worth knowing that despite the label suggesting a dry style, in practice this is a semi-sweet champagne. Vinification includes 18 months of ageing in the cellars and 3 months of ageing after disgorgement.
In the glass, the wine has a vivid pink colour with golden reflections. The aromatic profile is led by red fruit: an intense, fruity bouquet built mainly of fragrant red berries and cherries (morello cherry, blueberry, cranberry), with nuances of juicy summer fruits (fig, nectarine) and an appetising note of grenadine. On the palate the cuvée is juicy and harmonious, and the sweetness of the red fruits subtly combines with notes of pink grapefruit on the finish, delivering freshness and a slight bitterness.
Serving follows a simple ritual. Place 3 ice cubes in a large Cabernet-style glass, pour in the Moët Ice Impérial Rosé, wait a moment and serve ice cold. The champagne can be paired with ingredients that enhance freshness and aromatic intensity, including mint leaves, lime or white grapefruit zest, and cucumber peel. The producer recommends storing it at a constant temperature, away from light; the wine is ready to drink and can be kept in the cellar for up to three years, which guarantees its effervescence and fruity balance.
