Johnnie Walker Blue Label Year of the Horse is a limited edition Blended Scotch Whisky from Diageo, released to mark the Lunar New Year in the Chinese zodiac cycle falling in the Year of the Horse. Inside the bottle is the standard Johnnie Walker Blue Label – a blend of Scotch whiskies drawn from the brand's rare reserve stocks, of which only a small fraction of casks make it into this release. The whisky is bottled at 40% ABV.
What sets this edition apart is its visual presentation. Year of the Horse 2026 features a bottle design by Hong Kong-born, London-based fashion designer Robert Wun, known for his bold, surrealist silhouettes; his artwork references the Lunar New Year and the symbolism of the Horse – forward motion. The liquid itself has not been altered – there are no additional finishing casks or experiments here, it is simply Blue Label in new attire.
In terms of composition, Blue Label is based on a selection of rare malt and grain whiskies. The liquid inside is unchanged: the same Blue Label blend built from some of the rarest casks in Diageo's stocks, including irreplaceable reserves from distilleries that are silent today. The brand states that only one cask in ten thousand meets the required criteria.
On the nose and palate, this is a profile instantly recognisable for the brand. The whisky is aromatic and full-bodied, with notes of oak, sharp spice, dried fruit and baked goods; the palate reveals forest fruits, aniseed, cedar and citrus accents, while the whole remains tight and balanced, with a caramel backdrop and gentle smoke, chocolate and pronounced malt; the finish is floral and oaky, of good length, carried on a thread of mellow Highland smoke.
The producer suggests how best to serve it. Blue Label tastes best neat or with a splash of chilled water, which opens up layered notes of spice, vanilla, honey, caramel, hazelnut, dark chocolate and a long, smoky finish.
