Rufete to szczep niezwykły: niegdyś wszechobecny, teraz nieomal całkiem zapomniany. Od całkowitego wyginięcia uratował go specjalny program w regionie Douro, mający na celu przywrócenie szczepów zagrożonych zanikiem. Winogrona odmiany Rufete fermentowane są w stalowych tankach. Po fermentacji przez 8 miesięcy, połowa wina leżakuje w używanych wcześniej barriques, druga połowa w stalowych kadziach. Wino o delikatnych taninach, średnim ciele i eleganckich aromatach czarnych i czerwonych owoców. Jest nieco jaśniejsze niż klasyczne Douro, ale jego charakter jest bardzo wyrazisty. Schłodzone do ok. 12 stopni Rufete jest wyjątkowo przyjemne, daje długi finisz i pozwala odczuć wspaniałą owocowość.
